Have you ever worked with black glue? It is one of our favorite art supplies because when paired with watercolor paints, it creates a stained glass effect. In the past, we have made leaves using black glue and watercolors. If you haven't made black glue before it's super simple and the results are always eye popping. Today I will be sharing how we made hearts with black glue and water colors.
You will need:
- White glue
- Black paint
- Watercolor paint
- Thicker white paper
- Paintbrush
- Scissors
- Construction paper (optional)
You will want to empty your glue bottle so it's only half full. Then add some squirts of black paint. Use enough black paint to fill up an additional quarter of the glue bottle. Shake the mixture until it is totally combined.
Use the black glue to draw your heart design on a thick piece of white paper. You will be adding watercolors later and I always find that they work best on thicker paper. This requires a while to dry. I just did it the day before we wanted to paint and it worked out fine. When the designs are dry, you will notice that the glue had a hard raised texture that will really stand out when you add paint.
Time to add the watercolors!
This is how the hearts with black glue will look when the watercolor paint has dried. Now you will have a few options.
You can cut out the heart and put it in the window to get this pretty sun catcher or stained glass effect.
Or you can cut them out and glue them on some colorful construction paper for a decoration or a card.
