If you are a big Disney fan then you are probably familiar with Vinylmation. Vinylmation are small figures that come in a variety of patterns and designs - you can even create your own. They are extraordinarily popular and have inspired the new original animated short film - “Blank: A Vinylmation Love Story.” I watched it with my kids recently and afterward they got to design their own Vinylmation.
This short film is entertaining for all ages. It manages to convey some big themes such as friendship, love and creativity without words, just heartfelt imagery and music. Whatever language someone speaks, this film will speak to them. Blank: A Vinylmation Love Story is brought to us by Disney Interactive and Google. It is exclusively available on Google Play and is a 38 minute stop motion animated film.
My kids are too young to appreciate all of the work that went into creating this film but it is done flawlessly. The film tells the story of Blank, an unpainted Vinylmation who is separated from his love Bow. Bow is another unpainted Vinylmation, and the lengths Blank goes through to find her are inspiring. Along the way, Blank and Bow meet some friends that help them on their quest. The film ends with a wonderful message about creativity, being true to yourself, and the importance of friends that accept you for who you are.
After watching the film, we were inspired to make our own Vinylmation. At Disney Create I found a way to print out images of Vinylmation figures. When you select the stamp icon from the left side bar, the first choice is a blank Vinylmation figure. I stamped three of them on my page and then clicked on the print button on top. I wanted my kids to have a chance to decorate a few different Vinylmation characters.

We used watercolors because the paint and colors reminded us of a scene from the film. I just love how creative my kids got in designing their figures. Each was truly one of a kind!
To celebrate the premiere of Blank: A Vinylmation Love Story, Google is also inviting fans to share frames from the film with loved ones as digital greeting cards at blankmovie. After sharing a frame, you can unlock a second special film, “Cranes in Love,” created just for Google users.
