If you are new to Mess for Less, you might not know that I am a big believer in cooking with kids and getting them active in the kitchen. Check out these Family Friendly Recipes if you are looking for ways to get kids cooking. Today I am sharing a simple Popover Recipe that kids can help with. If you've never tried a popover please make these. Slather on some butter or jam and enjoy a wonderful breakfast.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of flour
- 1 cup of milk
- 3 eggs
- 2 tablespoons of melted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
We preheated our oven to 400 degrees. We measured and dumped our ingredients into a bowl and mixed it thoroughly with a mixer. My daughter had so much fun with this part! Before she started mixing, we talked about how she was not to touch the whisk and practiced where to keep the mixer and how to press the button.
When the ingredients were combined, we poured them into a well greased 12 cup muffin tin. Some people insist on using popover pans, but this is just another expense and I feel like our popovers were just as good in a traditional muffin tin. If you use a popover pan, the popovers will rise up more and be higher, but we were pretty pleased with our popovers.
Bake in a 400 degree oven for 25 minutes and reduce heat to 350 degrees for the final 10 minutes. My kids had so much fun looking at the popovers "pop" through the oven door. Even if you are tempted, do not open the oven door when they are baking or the popovers will collapse. When they are done they will be a wonderful golden brown.
Popovers taste best right out of the oven. Since we greased our muffin tin well, our popovers came out easily with a fork.

Vicky, I am so making these! In a muffin tin! I did spend money on a popover pan from KAF and it broke! Did not replace it, although in hindsight, I should have returned it. Happy and blessed Easter to you and your family. xo
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Barbara! Hope you have a wonderful Easter as well.
