I was lucky enough to try some of their pretzels. I got two varieties, Their Pizza Pretzels and their Traditional Bavarian Pretzels. You may remember that I have talked about how my children are picky eaters. I thought they might go for Pizza Pretzels because pizza is one of the few things they will eat. I also decided to try the Bavarian Pretzels because they seemed the least exotic and I thought my girls might go for that.
Hubby had been having a craving for pizza, but I know that when we order pizza we just eat the whole thing and feel awful afterwards. I remembered that we had our Pizza Pretzels and thought this might be a good compromise. Hubby did not see how a pretzel would take the place of a pizza, but he's a good sport so we gave it a try.
We baked the pretzel in our toaster oven following the directions on the package. I love how it looked all golden and gooey.
When we bit into it we were pleased to discover that the dough was crisp and the pizza filling was warm and tasty. It was yummy! Now, I am not going to lie. Does it taste exactly like a pizza? No, of course not. It's a pizza filled pretzel. But it is delicious and helped calm the hubby's craving for pizza. But lets get to the toughest critics, our 3 year old twins and our 20 month old. I think the girls were confused when we told them it was a pizza pretzel. They had these blank looks on their faces. I guess the lure of the word pizza must have been too strong because they tried them and ate their entire pieces. I felt bad that we only made one pretzel to split among the five of us, but I didn't think my daughters would eat it.
We also had a box of the Traditional Bavarian Pretzels. These came 4 to a box and hubby and I decided to try them one night after the girls went to sleep. We decided to split one and warmed it in the microwave. The pretzels come without salt and they give you instructions to add the salt on so it doesn't fall off. I like that it comes without salt, as I prefer more salt on a pretzel than hubby, and now I am able to customize it to my liking.
The salted pretzel.
Okay, true confession time. I mentioned that there were 4 pretzels in a package. We intended to try one ourselves and share the rest with the girls. Would you believe the over the next few days we consumed ALL the pretzels ourselves and did not share any with the girls? Shameful. It's not like we forgot either. At one point as we were stuffing our mouths with pretzels, one of us commented, "we should let the girls try this." The other one agreed and yet we kept on eating. I have no excuse for this selfish behavior other than these pretzels were REALLY good.
I totally wasn't expecting to love them as much as I did. We really liked the Pizza Pretzel, and well, how could a Bavarian Pretzel be better than that? For us it was. It was soft and chewy with crunchy salt on top. I slathered mine with yellow mustard and it just took me back to being a kid and eating a soft pretzel at the ball game. Hubby had his with no mustard and adored it just as much. I cannot say enough good things about this pretzel. Just writing about it has me craving some.
