Food Fun Friday: Candy Coated Crackers

My kids love crackers. Their very favorites are graham crackers and Ritz crackers. I like how easy they are to grab and take on the go. Not that I have ever bribed encouraged them to behave at the grocery store with a cracker. But if one was into such a thing, crackers are easy to take and dispense. But I'm getting kind of bored giving them the same crackers, so I decided to spice them up. 
I was inspired to make these by Tip Junkie's S'mores Pops. Mine are like a scaled down version of them and are neither a S'more nor a Pop. I was originally just going to do the graham crackers, but added in Ritz since I like the combination of salty and sweet.
You will need:

• Candy Melts
• Graham crackers and Ritz crackers
• Sprinkles

I used pink candy melts because I had them leftover from Easter and I think pink is perfect for Spring. Use whatever you have handy. Milk chocolate would work great here too.

Melt the candy melts according the directions on the package. I put them in a coffee mug in the microwave for a few minutes and that did the trick. Stir the candy melts until smooth and have kids be careful since the cup can be hot.

Have the kids hold the cracker by the top and dip it halfway into the candy.

Before the candy hardens you will want to add your sprinkles.

With supervision, even my 2 year old was able to help. 

Adding sprinkles was the trickiest because if you shook the container too vigorously, it would hit the cracker and make a mess.

Dip the Ritz in the same manner holding by the top and dipping halfway.

A cooling rack over a cookie sheet worked great for drying the candy and catching all those wayward sprinkles.

You can pop the crackers in the refrigerator a bit so the candy can harden. We just left them out on the counter and in 20 minutes they were ready.

I'd say the kids liked both types of crackers equally. I preferred the Ritz slightly because of the salty/sweet combo. 

This is a great way to dress up some plain crackers for a special occasion or party. But it really is so simple to make that you don't need a special reason.
