Review and Giveaway:Raising Your Kids To Love The Lord

I have read lots of parenting books and while I pick up a few tips from each one, I can honestly say that none have affected my parenting as much as the book Raising Your Kids To Love The Lord by Dave Stone. The book, which is published by Tommy Nelson, has been life changing for me. Those are strong words, but the ideas that Dave Stone sets forth can really alter how you relate to your kids.

Dave Stone is the Senior Pastor of Southeast Christian Church in Kentucky. He has raised three kids and combines his parenting experiences with spiritual teachings. This book really helped me to realize the amazing blessing I have to be an influence in my children's lives. I have struggled with how best to raise my kids to follow Christ's teachings and Dave Stone contends that parents can't expect the church to do that alone. The majority of that work actually falls on parents. What an awesome responsibility AND opportunity.

Here are a few of the very valuable insights I have picked up from Raising Your Kids To Love The Lord:
  • You need to be authentic. You need to be a Christian all the time. This is how your kids will learn. They need to see the actions that stem from your faith.
  • How to pray for your children, how to pray with your children, and how to teach them to pray.
  • Discipline in a Christian household and the idea of obedience. I was doing so many things wrong in this area and my kids were continually pushing and testing limits while I became more upset and frustrated. In just the few days that I have been using Dave's technique of teaching kids to obey the first time they are asked, things have improved dramatically. Gone are the fights and negotiations. The kids know we mean business and they have been responding positively. Amazing! I love how he ties on obedience in the household with obedience to God.
Raising Your Kids To Love the Lord is the first book in Dave Stone's "Faithful Families" series and I am excited to read the rest. The book is written in a humorous style and you truly feel like a friend is speaking to you. He teaches in such a way that the reader doesn't feel judged even when faced with some harsh truths.

Check out the flipbook here and preview the first 11 pages and see if you don't agree that this book is powerful! You can learn more about the "Faithful Families" series by viewing the trailer here.

So what kind of a person would I be if I went on and on about this book without offering you a chance to win one for yourself? I am thrilled that Thomas Nelson is offering one lucky Mess For Less reader the chance to win this book. I am hoping that it changes your life as it has mine. Good luck and if you don't win I strongly feel this is a book you need to own. Rules and entry are below.

  1. I have an extremely bright (read: challenging) three year old and a nine month old on the same path. I was baptized the same day my oldest was, so I have much to learn. I try to be an example, but I am missing the mark in many ways. My husband--raised a Christian--is great, but quick to anger. This book sounds like an answer to my prayers in helping us be better parents. Thanks for offering it as a giveaway. Hope to win!
