Shaving Cream Pumpkin Banner

We have made shaving cream art and wrapping paper in the past. The kids always have a blast playing with shaving cream and it provides a wonderful sensory experience so I thought we would try to make shaving cream pumpkins. Read on to see how we did it.

You will need:

Shaving cream
Food coloring
Tray
White paper
Green construction paper
Popsicle stick
Tape
Ribbon
Scissors

I bought my shaving cream at the dollar store. Rather than using liquid food coloring as shown above, I experimented and used yellow and orange gel food coloring that you use to tint frosting. It worked just as well, so if you don't have liquid food coloring on hand, that will work too.

Add some food coloring to the shaving cream and give your child a Popsicle stick to mix it. Since the Popsicle stick is thin it will distribute some of the color but not tint all of the shaving cream Orange. You want the shaving cream to look marbled and not turn completely orange for the best effect on the paper.

Once you have the color mixed in and have some marbling going on, place a sheet of white paper on top and have your child smoosh it down. This was my daughter B's favorite part. You want to make sure they press down evenly so a lot of the paper gets covered.

Then have your child lift up the paper to see their shaving cream print. Little C was impressed. "Wow!"

When they were done with the prints, the kids enjoying playing with the shaving cream and squishing it between their fingers. This did leave their hands a little orange when they were done, but we did a bath after this and it all came out.

You can stop here if you wish and have some pretty patterned paper, or you can wait until the paper dries and use it to make some pumpkins. To do that you will cut various circle shapes out of the dried shaving cream paper.
