I am a hint dropper. I admit it. When there is a special occasion coming up, I am one of those people who subtly (and not so subtly) drop hints about what I would like. I do this to try and help the people in my life. They will often ask "what do you want for (fill in the blank)." I will usually respond coyly and say "nothing," and then proceed to drop hints over the course of the next week. Why not come right out and tell them? Well, I like to be surprised. If I drop hints about a number of gifts I would like then I may get one of them (this is my reasoning at least, read on to see how it works out for me) but I am not sure which one. So I get surprised which wouldn't happen if I just said what I wanted.
The problem is no one I know ever picks up on my hints. So I end up with a nick-nack or book I'm not that interested in, or concert tickets to see someone who I don't listen to. Now these are not big problems and I am grateful to be thought of and for the kindness of friends and family. But when I heard about Ziftit, I thought it sounded like a great way to make the whole gift giving process easier for the giver and the recipient. Ziftit was designed to make the shopping process enjoyable and easy while eliminating the guesswork out of gift giving.
When you create a free Ziftit account you can start searching for gifts from a variety of sites such as Amazon, Zappos, J.Crew and many others. Create a Ziftlist for a special occasion and add your gift choices to the list. I created one for my birthday, which I am celebrating this month.
Now I just invite friends, who have inquired about what I'd like, to Ziftit or share my list with them via Facebook, Twitter and email and they can see my choices and purchase one for me if they choose. Easy peasy!
You can even use Ziftit to create events and send out invitations. You can invite friends to events with a gift list attached. This is really great for parents. When my kids have a birthday coming up, I get asked all time by friends what the kids want/need for their birthday. This takes the guesswork out of gift giving.
Ziftit provides a downloadable browser plug in that allows you to add any item from any website to your Ziftlist. Pretty handy huh? iPhone users can also download an app that lets you add items to your list from any store.
Hubby has a birthday coming up in a few months and I'd like to get him something special. He reads this blog, so I won't mention what I am thinking here, but I have added it to an event I created for him. Problem is, what I am thinking of is out of my budget. In fact, I can only contribute a small amount. No problem! On Ziftit, I can allow for a group purchase so family and friends can chip in for the present. What a great idea!
Ziftit is also giving back to the community which makes me feel good about using them. This past Christmas, Ziftit provided 1,000 gifts to children and families affected by Hurricane Sandy.
So what about you? Are you a hinter? Do you come right out and tell people what you want? I am sure you'll agree that regardless of the gifts you are hoping for and receive, nothing can replace time and experiences with loved ones.
