Here are some guidelines if you are thinking about purchasing a learning tablet for your child.
Limit the time they spend on it - My kids (four year old twins and a three year old) share their learning tablet and use it a few times a week for no more than 15 minutes at a time. Find a schedule that seems reasonable to you and your child and stick with it. A kitchen timer works well for us so each child gets an equal amount of time to play.
Pick games responsibly There are a variety of games out there and they all won't be appropriate with your child's skill level. A learning tablet like the LeapPad Ultra has access to over 800 educator approved games and apps, so the guesswork is gone. You can feel good knowing the games are high quality and will help your child learn.
Safeguard your learning tablet - If you are investing in a learning tablet, you will want to be sure it stays intact. Purchase a case for it or get a tablet made for children like the LeapPad Ultra which is designed tough for kids. The LeapPad Ultra also keeps your kids safe because there is no chance they will wander off and see any inappropriate content. There are simple parental settings which give you control over your child's experience.
Interact with your child while they are learning - Your child will need time to explore the learning tablet on their own and to discover through trial and error what it can do. This is a great way for kids to learn. But be sure to sit for a bit and explore the games with your child. Ask questions, play together and show an interest in what they are doing.
