Button Stacking Game

Button Stacking Game - Find out how simple this game is to play and what you need to play it anywhere. My kids loved it!

We played a really fun game the other day and it takes just a few seconds to set up. I was inspired by a collection of buttons that we have. We have used buttons in the past in this Counting Game with Buttons and Muffin Cups. Buttons make great manipulatives and can be used for many learning and play activities. Today, I will share how to use them to create a fine motor activity for kids where they try to be the fastest in a Button Stacking Game.

If you would like to purchase any of the supplies we used, links are provided in the supply list. A small portion of the sales help support Mess for Less. Thank you!

You will need:

tray of buttons

Before we started our game, I explained that we would be playing to see who could stack the most buttons in one minute. I gave the kids a tray with various sized buttons on it and had them practice stacking the buttons.

When they were comfortable with the concept, I set the timer on the microwave for one minute. You can adjust the time based on the skill level of your players. The race was on!

My kids quickly figured out that they would need to start their stack with larger buttons. This game requires a steady hand is even challenging for adults.

One of my daughters figured out a good strategy. When she felt like her stack might fall over if she added one more button, she just stopped and waited for the timer to run out the last few seconds.

Button stacking is a fun way to practice fine motor skills and get kids thinking abut strategy. You can even throw some buttons in a bag and bring this game to a restaurant to play while you are waiting for your food. Most cell phones have a timer you can use to keep track of the minute.
