My Mom

Mother's day is coming up and the longer I have been a mom, the more I appreciate all my mom has done for me over the years. I think that is probably just the natural cycle of things - it's hard to fully grasp what's involved in being a mom until you are in the trenches. I am an adult raising three kids of my own. At this point of my life I would have thought that I might need my mom less. I mean after all, I can feed and dress myself, run a household, and work. I am a mature independent woman. But if you pull back the curtain you'll find that I am able to be and do all those things because of my mother.

My mom had many tough roles when I was growing up. She was chauffeur, shuttling me to and from school and appointments. She was a seamstress, sewing me clothes and mending tears. She was a doctor, nursing me through many an illness. She was a provider, working hard to make ends meet and put food on our table.  She wasn't around as often as she wanted to be and by her own admission, missed out on some important events. But I have been blessed that ever since I had my twins, my mom has been retired and really able to fully be present with her grandchildren. She has such a great time playing with my kids that I can tell she is making up for all the things she missed when I was growing up. Whenever she stops by, she is a huge help and I honestly don't know how our family would function without her.

Celebrate Mom with Cardstore

This Mother's Day, one of the special things we are doing for my mom is making a personalized card at Cardstore. Cardstore, a greeting card website from American Greetings, allows you to create a custom card to celebrate mom. At Cardstore.com you can create a personalized card perfect for mom and include your own photos and personal message. The best part is Cardstore will print out the card, address it, and mail it mom. No more excuses!

Here is a sneak peek of the card we made:

Pretty cute huh? Cardstore had tons of choices, but I picked this one because my mom loves purple, I loved the sentiment and it fit this cute photo I took of my daughters.

Cardstore is making it easy to try their customizable cards yourself. Head over to Cardstore.com and use coupon code CCF4249 to get Mother's Day cards for $2.49 (regularly up to $3.69).

*Coupon code CCF4249 is valid from April 24-May 5.

Do You Have #TheWorldsToughestJob

You may have seen the video above - it did go viral and has been everywhere. American Greetings created a job posting called "Director of Operations" and posted it all over the place. Then they interviewed people for the position. Once job applicants heard of everything the job entailed (being on call 24 hours a day, not getting a break and receiving no salary) they balked at the position. Imagine their surprise when they were told the job description was that of a mother. The reactions of the job applicants is priceless and might just bring a tear to your eye. If you have anything you'd like to add to the World's Toughest Job description add it here.

What are some of your favorite Mother's Day memories?
