These Contact Paper Christmas Stickers are simple to make. Use acrylic paint to decorate clear contact paper to create this festive set of Christmas stickers. What makes them especially fun is that the ornament stickers can be removed and moved to a different spot so the activity can enjoyed all over again. I was inspired to make these after my kids had so much fun creating DIY Shape Stickers.
You will need:
- Contact paper
- Scissors
- Paint sponges
- Acrylic paint
- Permanent marker
- Paint palette
- Wax paper
The first step needs to be done by an adult. Unroll a length of contact paper and draw a tree and some decorations on the non paper side. Drawing is not my thing clearly, so you don't have to be an artist to do this.
Cut the decorated paper and tape it down to your table or work surface. You will need to do this so the paper will not roll up during the painting. Squirt some acrylic paint (make sure to include green for the tree) onto a paint palette (you can also use a paper plate) and give it to your child so they can paint the tree and decorations.
I love using acrylic paint on contact paper since it doesn't flake or peel off.
The kids had different methods of painting to contact paper. One of my daughters was very deliberate about painting in the lines and cleaning her brush between colors.
My youngest mixed colors and painted wherever she wanted. Now that I am thinking about it, you can tell a lot about a child's personality by the way they paint. My youngest does what she wants and is more about process than product, while my other daughter is very neat and methodical.
When the contact paper is painted, allow to dry over night. Then you will cut out each of the shapes. I tried to cut as much of the black marker outline as I could.
Peel the backs off of the cut out shapes and stick them to a piece of wax paper. This creates a "sticker sheet" for your child of ornaments that they can easily peel off to decorate their tree.
I stuck the tree on a window so that light could shine through.
My daughter then proceeded to stick the ornaments on her tree.
A fun thing about these contact paper decorations is that they can be peeled off the tree and used again.
We have had ours up for a few days now and the kids have redecorated them over and over.
