How I Survived the Holidays #SproutMOMents

Well, another holiday season has come and gone, leaving in its path a trail of wrapping paper, toy boxes and memories. Over at Sprout, they call these experiences "Holiday MOMents" because even though they are enough to drive a sane mom crazy, wonderful memories are being made. Did you have any craziness over the holidays? If not, can I come over to your place next year?

Our craziness began the week leading up to Christmas. I had somehow thought it would be a good idea to do all homemade gifts this year for friends and teachers and was up to my eyeballs in cookie dough, fudge and hand crafted soap. Plus, I was cleaning and getting the house ready for family who would be staying with us for a week. My husband and I had to move all the boxes and junk that we store in his office (which would become a makeshift bedroom with the family visit) so that it wouldn't look like we hadn't touched the room since the last Christmas when everyone visited (we hadn't).

To add to the crazy, my kids (twin five year olds and a three year old) were not on their best behavior with all the house guests and the change to their routine. Plus they had a visiting five year old cousin to contend with, who rather than viewing as another play mate, they viewed as someone else to fight with. I described the interaction of the four girls as what you might see if you threw four cats into a sack.

Yet through it all some nice memories were created. My husband continued his tradition of reading The Night Before Christmas to the kids on Christmas Eve.

I wish I could say I was there to enjoy it, but I had a mommy meltdown (kids fighting constantly and holiday stress were not my friend) and I was upstairs in my bedroom frantically wrapping presents and being a general grump because I'd only gotten four hours of sleep the night before. Being a mom though, I wanted to captured every MOMent so I was happy that family members took photos when I was on my mom timeout.

Thankfully, I was around for the memories created on Christmas morning as the kids opened presents and squealed. While I appreciated the gifts of clothing they received, my kids were more impressed with flying ponies.

Even though the holidays were a crazy time, it was a special time when we built lasting memories. Hopefully none of those lasting memories for my kids will be of me having a mommy meltdown. Sprout wants to help you celebrate you own special Holiday MOMents - the funny, the outrageous, the sweet and the priceless. Simply head over to Sprout and create your own. They have lots of fun templates that you can add your photos to and then share via social media. I made this one of my daughter decorating the tree.
