Blog Swap with One Artsy Mama: Turkey Placecards

I so excited today to be doing a blog swap with One Artsy Mama.  What's a blog swap?  Basically, Amy from One Artsy Mama, is posting her today and I will be posting a Fall Tree craft over at her blog.  So you get 2 fun ideas for the price of 1.

Hi!  I'm Amy, aka, One Artsy Mama.  I'm so excited to be guest posting here at Mess For Less today!  Thanks, Vicky, for sharing some space on your fabulous blog with me!  Let's see...a little about me: I've been married to my best friend and dance partner for almost 10 years,

 and we have an adorable 3 year old {my "Little Crafter"} who keeps me on my toes!

I love all things artsy-craftsy: sewing, jewelry-making, painting, graphic design...you name it, I enjoy it!  I'm happiest when I'm creating something, and one of the best things of all is when I can share that with my son.  He's inherited the crafty gene and we have lots of fun making things together, especially around the holidays.  Since Thanksgiving is right around the corner, I thought I'd share a cute kiddo craft today that you can make for your Turkey-Day table.

I looove doing things with handprints; Little Crafter thinks it's hysterical to have his hand traced, and I like how it documents his growth.  Last year was our first time hosting our families for Thanksgiving, so we took the opportunity to make some special handprint turkey placecards.  Here's how we did it:

TURKEY PLACECARDS

Materials: white cardstock, washable paint in fall colors, scissors, construction paper, fine point marker, tape, paintbrushes

STEP 1: We traced Little Crafter's handprint onto the white cardstock and I added beaks, eyes, and whatever you call the little hangy-down-thingy turkeys have.

STEP 2: I turned him loose with red, orange, yellow, and brown paint.

STEP 3: Once the paint dried, I cut the turkeys out.

STEP 4: I wrote each person's name {according to Little Crafter} on yellow construction paper and he helped me glue them onto the turkeys' tummies.

STEP 4: We rolled up strips of construction paper and taped them to the turkeys to make them stand up. {sorry I don't have a pic of that}

They were a fabulous addition to our festive table!  The grandparents and great-grandparents loooved them.

 ...and a certain little someone was VERY proud of himself!

We also traced his handprint about a million times onto colored cardstock and glued them all to a paper plate to make a festive holiday wreath.
