Review and Giveaway: Alphabeasts

My girls were thrilled to receive a sample of  Alphabeasts recently.  Have you seen these things?  They may look like a lovable plush toy, but they are much more than that.  Each Alphabeasts boasts a letter of the alphabet and has been designed to help teach kids their letters and spelling.

Lets take a closer look...

We got a "P" Alphabeasts creature which is bright pink on one side with a lowercase green p, and green on the other side with an uppercase pink P.  Each beast is two sided to double the learning fun. My girls prefer the pink side - go figure!  Each of the Alphabeasts have a name and distinct personality.  The one with the letter P is called Pogey, and according to the Alphabeasts website, if there is a bright side "this little clown will help you discover it."

To say the girls loved Pogey is an understatement.  I first gave him to the kids to play with and explore and lots of hugs and kisses were shared.

The Alphabeasts are INCREDIBLY soft and make a great cuddle pal.  I can easily see this guy being taken to bed instead of a teddy bear.  They also make great pillows.

I was excited to use Pogey to help us learn about the letter P.  I told my kids that Pogey was hungry and that he only liked to eat words that started with the letter P.  I sat down with my three year olds and we came up with words that started with the letter P and wrote them on slips of paper.  I was surprised that they were able to get a few themselves and I helped out with the rest.  This would be a great activity to use with older kids.

The kids put Pogey in a highchair and started feeding him some P words.

He was stuffed!

Uses for Alphabeasts

  • Teach and review letters
  • Teach spelling
  • Useful for a classroom or homeschool setting
  • Decor - these would be great spelling out a child's name in their room.
  • Collectible
  • Cuddly friend
I am sure you will think up plenty more ways to use the Alphabeasts.  Check out what others are doing in this fun video.

Christmas is coming and these make great gifts! You can buy Alphabeasts here.  They are $15.99 each, as is the set of Alphabeasts alphabet books.  26 books for $15.99 sounds like a great deal to me!  The books really complement the Alphabeasts and help extend the learning even further.
