6 Tips to Stay Healthy During the Holidays with Lean Cuisine Honestly Good #HonestlyGood #PMedia #ad

This is a dangerous time of year. I like to think of it as the Fall Slide. Starting with Halloween, continuing through Thanksgiving and ending with Christmas, this season is notorious for packing on the pounds. There's Halloween candy, Thanksgiving feasts and Christmas goodies to tempt even the healthiest of souls. Trying to avoid the weight gain of last year, I suggested to my husband that we try making better choices now to allow us to indulge a bit later on. Read on to discover my 6 Tips to Stay Healthy During the Holidays.

Here are some ideas to help you avoid the Fall Slide and start 2014 on a healthy note:

1. Everything in moderation
The holidays are not a free for all. You do not have permission to eat whatever you want because winter is coming and you'll be hidden under lots of layers. Why make things harder for yourself come January? By practicing moderation, you can keep holiday weight gain to a minimum. If you have a sweet tooth, limit yourself to one small piece of candy a day. A bite sized candy bar perhaps. Do not allow yourself to snack mindlessly throughout the day.

2. Eat a small meal before a party
Having a bowl of fruit or a salad before heading out to a holiday party can be a great way to cut down on the calories you consume at the party. If you are already somewhat satisfied, you will be less likely to wolf down that entire bowl of nuts or chips.

3. Limit the temptations at home
Don't keep Halloween treats around forever. You will eat them if you have them in the house. Have the kids pick out a certain number of treats they would like to keep and donate the rest, either to a local dentist who buys back candy, or to a charity that sends candy to the troops.

4. Add in some exercise
If you already have a workout plan in place, you are one step ahead. If exercise is not part of your normal routine, add in a brisk 20-30 minute walk each day or practice simple ways to burn extra calories such as parking further away from your destination or taking the stairs more often.

5. Practice portion control
When you are out at a holiday party, limit the amount of food you eat. Often times it is enough to just have a sliver of cake or a bite of a cookie. This taste can satisfy a craving and keep you from feeling deprived. You can also practice portion control at home with Lean Cuisine Honestly Good meals. They come in six delicious varieties - Honey Citrus Chicken, Plum Ginger Grain-Crusted Fish, Pineapple Black Pepper Beef, Lemongrass Salmon, Roasted Red Pepper Chicken, and Pomegranate Chicken.

Each meal contains a healthy balance of protein, carbohydrates and vegetables, plus a sauce that you can pour on yourself. The ingredients are 100% natural and wholesome.

6.  Swap out a higher calorie meal with a lower calorie option
Making a simple swap, like replacing a higher calorie meal with a healthy option like Lean Cuisine Honestly Good meals. Honestly Good meals range from 220-390 calories and are a quick, easy and healthy alternative to fast food or a high calorie meal.

But how do they taste? No one wants to feel deprived or like they are giving up taste for health. You don't have to with Honestly Good. I have tried three varieties so far and they all tasted fresh and delicious and exceeded my expectations. My favorite is the Plum Ginger Grain-Crusted Fish because I felt the plum sauce really complimented the fish and rice.
