For Halloween, as part of a sponsored post for Collective Bias® and Nestle, my kids helped me make these easy Monster Crispy Rice Treats. All opinions are my own. #TrickUrTreat
One of the things I love about Halloween is that it is an opportunity to indulge a bit. I am not a very patient person however, so the prospect of waiting until Halloween night to indulge seemed too far off.
One of my favorite indulgences are crispy rice treats, so I used some Halloween candy I purchased at Walmart to add a Halloween touch to a classic food.
To make Crispy Rice Treats you will need:
- 6 cups of rice cereal
- 4 cups of mini marshmallows
- 3 tablespoons of butter
In a saucepan, melt the better and add the marshmallows. Stir over low heat until the marshmallows have melted.
Remove from heat and add the rice cereal to the marshmallow mixture. Stir until all the cereal has been coated.
Press into a greased 13 x 9 pan and let cool. When cool, you can cut into squares and decorate.
We used some melted chocolate chips, along with Nestle Crunch, Butterfinger and Nerds candies, to decorate our crispy rice treats. I melted 1/2 cup of chocolate chips in the microwave and spread the melted chocolate on the treat squares.
I cut up a few Crunch and Butterfinger bars into various sizes and my kids used those and two boxes of Nerds to create spooky monster faces.
My daughter carefully pushed the Nerds into the melted chocolate to create eyes and hair.
When the squares were done being decorated, I popped them in the refrigerator until the chocolate hardened and they candies were stuck in place. This took about 20 minutes.
These Monster Crispy Rice Treats make a great dessert. In fact, that is just how we served them for our weekly pizza night. Since we were having a fun Halloween treat, it only made sense to put a Halloween twist on our traditional pizza night.
I had purchased a few varieties of Tombstone pizzas at Walmart to enjoy on pizza night. The monster packaging was a big hit with my little ones.
Since my kids find pepperonis too spicy, I moved them over to the Mom and Dad section of the pizza. More pepperoni for me!
To add a Halloween twist to the pizza, I used a ghost and pumpkin cookie cutter to create Hallow-izza for my kids. This would be a great way to serve a pizza at a Halloween party. It doesn't take a lot of extra effort to transform an everyday food into a Halloween indulgence.
Leave a comment and let me know some ideas you have for making everyday food a little more spooky.

ReplyDeleteThese were easy and delicious and we had a great time making them. Thank you!
DeleteWhat fun! My son would love the monsters!
ReplyDeleteThanks! You can totally make the monsters as scary as you want.
DeleteIf you cook liver with onions and put the lid on-the whole mess will turn grey-always scared the bejesus out of me!
ReplyDeleteBoiled whole rutabagas on a bed of pureed kale would send me screaming.
Sauted kale on a bed of buckwheat groats would just about kill me.
Kale used as a garnish would be pretty darn spooky.
Once I was served snails, on fancy plates with clever little tongs and a cute little fork...I was horrified!
Food cut into shapes of spiders or skulls or ghosts for children are just fun-not spooky!
Processed, boxed, food is really spooky to me!
Even spookier than kale!
Yes Laurie, I think liver would scare my kids for sure! Thanks for visiting.
DeleteCute when the little ones can help too! Looks yummy! #client
