Making Memories with Family Pumpkin Carving - #PumpkinMastersKit

This weekend we participated in a fun family tradition - pumpkin carving. In the past we have made a simple jack o'lantern face using a sharp knife. This is not a bad way to carve a pumpkin, but can be a be a bit dangerous and not very unique. We were very excited to try some Pumpkin Masters carving kits and take our pumpkins up a notch.

Pumpkin Masters kits are available at your local grocery, drug, or craft store, and nationally at Target and Walmart. They come in many varieties that allow you to easily create a number of spooky and fun pumpkins. They even make Xtreme Strobe lights that look awesome inside a pumpkin. We will never use anything else to light up the inside of our pumpkins. I really loved the Surface Carving Kit as you don't even have to open up the pumpkin. Talk about simple and mess free! Each kit includes templates for lots of designs plus the tools to use to create your own master piece.

My husband is the head pumpkin carver so he did all the steps that involved cutting or carving. The kids looked through the designs that came with the Surface Carving Kit and liked the owl the best.

My kids just loved watching their dad work on the pumpkin. He was very patient as he heard many questions such as "is it done yet?" and "when will it be done?"

How cool did the owl turn out?

Next, we decided to use the Kids Carving Kit which came with plastic eyes that could be stuck in the pumpkin. The kids decided we should carve the spider. First, we cut a hole in the bottom.

My daughter couldn't believe there were so many seeds inside the pumpkin!

Time to clean out the pumpkin!

My kids asked if we could roast pumpkin seeds. They remembered that last Halloween we made roasted pumpkin seeds in 3 flavors. You can check out our recipe here. In order to roast pumpkin seeds, the seeds need to be removed from the pulp. This was a fun job for my daughter. When she was done, we set the seeds aside to roast later and continued with our pumpkin carving.

The eyes we added just make the spider seem so spooky. You should see how they glow at night when the Xtreme Strobe Light is placed inside.

We had one small pumpkin left so we tried the Pumpkin Masters Decorating Punches kit. I love this kit because the punches allow you to create these stunning designs like you'd see in a home decor magazine. It was simple to create a dotted design.
